(More customer reviews)This was by far an excellent experience. I had many phantom problems with my 1999 Jeep XJ and it all led back to my fuel module. In learning about this whole process I found out that the "module" is actually the following parts:
- fuel pump
- fuel filter
- fuel level gauge
- fuel pressure regulator
All these parts together equal the fuel module. DO NOT attempt to take out your old module and just replace one part at a time; it will be a PITA to put back together and IF something else needs to be replaced YOU WILL be paying MORE than if you had just bought the entire fuel module in the first place. SO BE WARNED if you are considering disassembling and putting back together UNLESS YOU KNOW EXACTLY WHAT YOU ARE DOING.
If you're like me and are reasonably mechanical, then you can do this fuel module swap. These are the steps:
1. remove the fuel tank skid plate (this can take a LONG time if your bolts are really rusty and your nuts break off and start spinning)
2. drop the nuts on the fuel tank strap bolts all the way to the bottom
3. disconnect the fuel tank hoses (there are 2)
4. get under the tank and lower it down with your arms or legs, however you can do it without spilling the fuel all over yourself
5. get an air compressor and blow the top of the tank CLEAN
6. use a spanning tool (rent from Autozone or OReillys) to remove the fuel pump module retaning ring
7. remove the fuel module and rubber gasket ring
8. replace gasket ring and insert the new fuel module
9. carefully put on plastic cap/ring with the spanning tool. It takes time to get it to fit JUST right. try going counter and then clockwise to get it to catch just right.
10. reconnect everything in reverse order
You should also search around a bit to get more info on how to do this project. That's the basics. BUT there is more to know when working with fuel, so don't be stupid and spill fuel out of your rail onto a HOT engine. That's just dangerous.
Be careful and for sure USE THIS PRODUCT, I am very happy with mine. So far :)
