(More customer reviews)Product looks very similar to original air filter being replaced. Mazda does not make the MX-5 air filter easy to replace. On top of that, this filter was not easy to install. It turns out it was slightly wider than the original (at least by my ruler). Finally, to get it in and close the cover, I had to trim a little of the rubber edge off each side. With its width a little smaller, I finally got it in.
Should mention that getting the filter into its assigned area was not the real difficult part. The problem is the cover would not close until I did the trimming mentioned earlier. Was it me or the filter? Well, I took the old one out and then put it back in and closed the cover. So I could install the original with minimal difficulty. This one took some work.
Previous poster mentioned to check out the old one so this one would be installed correctly (the original has printing to indicate the front and top). No printing here, but not really an issue. One of the corners on this filter (and the original) is not rounded. One of the corners in the plastic air filter box is not rounded. Just make sure you match these up. It does not jump out at you at first that one corner is different.
