(More customer reviews)I wasn't sure what I would get with a price that seemed too low to believe, but figured I would take a chance. I needed to find an alternative to my small gasoline powered generator which is now over ten years old with minimal usage. Gas is such a pain, as I stock up for hurricanes and end up dumping it back through my cars to get rid of it before it goes bad; diesel is very stable with some additives, much safer to store a dozen-or-so gallons long term, and provides more energy per gallon.
I had never heard of All Power before, but it seems they make a variety of products--hopefully an "up and coming" that will be around for a long time if they can establish a rep as a company with quality and service which it appears they are trying to do. So far, I am extremely happy with what I have gotten for my money. Shipping was a breeze and they placed it right where my wife told them inside my garage until I got home. No instructions for basic construction of adding wheels etc but not really needed either for anyone with basic mechanical ability. The manual seems extremely well written for a Chinese product--I was initially impressed by that.
After the first startup (for which I needed to use the electric start), it starts manually on the first pull every time! Fit and finish quality appear excellent and no shortcuts on construction. Nice features include a fuel tank gauge, run-hours meter, 120v/240v selector, and electric start; 3 and 4 prong twist power plugs were included too. The 6-wheels (2 pneumatic + 4 small rollers) make it pretty easy to move around, though there is definitely some weight associated with a generator set this large. The engine is made by Changfa, generally recognized as an excellent Chinese company with a real understanding of quality control. As an emergency generator, it will take a long time to put real serious hours on it--it only remains to be seen how long it would stand up to continuous operation if needed; hopeful that proper maintainance will yield long service.

You won't get arrested for stealing this diesel generator! Ok, you need a big rig to keep the lights and appliances burning. You've looked around and been shocked by some prices exceeding $5,000! You know that a diesel generator means longer life and greater fuel economy. You just didn't know what unit to buy...until now! We're a new company and we really wanted to make a statement so we went to the All Power America factory and asked for a special deal! Boy, were we surprised! They offered us the APG-3201 6500 watt peak, 5000 watt diesel generator at a price so low we almost couldn't believe it. Don't peak yet! Wait until you read hat you get for your money! Here we have an open air diesel engine mounted in a square steel frame. (Square steel is important because it's about 40% stronger than tubular steel and will therefore withstand all the engine vibrations while still maintaining the unit's integrity). Next, when you get to a larger generator, you must have electric start unless you are really strong. Some companies offer the starter, but you have to then go out and buy a battery. This unit has both the starter and the battery included. The APG-3101 will operate for about 11 hours on just four gallons of diesel fuel, has two 120V and one 240V outlet, includes a mobility kit with pneumatic tires and a fold down tine and easy to read gauges, outlets and controls. Now you can look at the price! Such a deal!

(More customer reviews)I purchased a DS7200Q (DuroStar) generator from Maxtool (the trademark holder) in January 2010. By mid-Feburary I was having to order replacement parts. By April, I found metal and paper in the oil crank case. I took photos of the metal fragments and paper and sent them to MaxTool. They suggested I have the generator evaluated by a diesel repair shop. The repair shop found the connector rod was sheared. Clearly a defective machine, but MaxTool refuses to replace the engine or refund me. All of this happened before the generator even logged 50 hrs. Now I have a $1000 diesel generator that is useless, plus the cost of the "evaluation". They do not have any concern for customer service, nor do they stand behind their products.

(More customer reviews)I purchased this generator in August of 2008. I live in an area (upstate NY) where we lose power frequently. The item arrived and was delivered to my back yard in perfect working order.
We recently had a very bad ice storm in the Northeast and we lost power for 3 days. The generator worked perfectly running my sump pump, hot water heater (gas, direct vent), furnace, fridge (2) and several lights. I had to run power cords from outside rather than use the NEMA power cord to a manual transfer switch I had installed before the generator was delivered (more on that later). I ran the house for 10-12 hours on the 2 20lb propane tanks before I needed to change them out, which was to me, excellent. The generator is very quiet, we could barely hear it in the house. I have it installed behind my garage facing downwind of the house.
Okay, the transfer switch issue. While the manual, Briggs & Stratton web site, Briggs & Stratton FAQ page does not specifically state this, you MUST purchase the B&S manual transfer switch PERIOD! The model number is Briggs & Stratton 71014 - PowerNow Generator Transfer Kit (10 Circuits). This is the only transfer switch that works with the GFCI breaker installed in the generator. I had 3 electricians (friends of mine) look at the gen-tran 30 amp transfer switch wiring that was installed in my house and it is NOT a switching neutral switch.
Confused? I was too until I got on the phone with a very nice B&S technician who told me to only use their switch. I was dissapointed as I then needed to shell out another $400.00 but now it's working fine. I did let B&S know that they should be specific about the fact that only their switch is compatible with these types of generators. It is because of this fact that I only rated it 4 stars.
All in all that one storm alone made this purchase worth every penny. It also kept the house in harmony (if you know what I mean).
I would heartly recommend this generator to anyone who is looking for a well built powerful and quiet standby generator. Just make sure you buy the 71014 - PowerNow Generator Transfer Kit from B&S

(More customer reviews)I was apprehensive about buying this generator because they don't have a network of service centers... they tell you to take it to any small engine shop near you and contact them about charges under warranty. I called their cust svc and talked with them about the need for third party verification regarding parts needed and they assured me none was required.. I could fix it myself if I wanted.. just call them and tell them what I needed and they'd send it out. That seemed fair enough. It took a little over a week to get mine and it was delivered by USF Holland freight and arrived in pristine condition.. hats off to Holland. I got the liftgate delivery and he backed that big semi right up to my garage door...took his hand truck and set the small skid it was banded to in the center of my garage.. he required no help.. I never touched it until he was gone. These come packed in a cardboard carton and the packaging is well engineered.. thick foam all sides.. top and bottom.. all loose parts.. wheel kit.. etc.. in their own little nook in the foam. It is very heavy but you can get it assembled and off the skid working alone.. I did and I'm 62 yrs old. I pulled the front until it overhung the skid about 10" and assembled the wheel kit then pivoted one side of the rear until it overhung and assembled that strut then blocked the rear strut up with a 4x4 and pulled the skid out of the way and assembled the other strut. I filled it with good synthetic blend oil and put about a gallon of gas in it. I turned the fuel valve on.. it's located a few inches to the right of the choke handle. I pulled the choke handle all the way out and tried to start it with the key... the battery was totally dead. I pulled it out and put it on the charger and stuck the battery outa my lawn tractor in it and tried to start it. It was running almost before I could let go of the key. These Powermax units all have an idle control on them so there's no speed adjustments of any kind possible and none needed. It idles very fast.. all generators do.. they have to to produce current. It ran smooth with no fluctuating noticeable in engine speed. Next I took my voltmeter and checked the output on all the current-carrying poles on all the receptacles. I got a steady 119 volts everywhere. With a target of 120 I considered this to be excellent.. my house current won't hold that. The reason I bought this big unit in the first place was I had hoped it would start and run my big window air conditioner... it is huge.. 30k btu's. I plugged the extension cord I had bought into the L14-30 240v receptacle on the generator and ran it inside the house and plugged up the conversion cord I'd made going to the 6-30 plug on the air conditioner and turned it on. It fired right up with no bogging down and I never noticed the engine on the genny pick up at all. I let it run about a half hour... let the compressor on the air conditioner cycle off and on many times and watched the voltmeter on the genny. It never moved.. engine really never picked up speed either so this generator runs that big air conditioner without any strain on it at all.. I was VERY relieved. The other things I plan to run during an outage won't even approach the surge requirements of that big air conditioner so that issue was put to rest. It turned out that the battery in mine was no good.. wouldn't hold a charge even a half hour. I called MaxTool and told them and true to their word there was no hassle.. they sent me a brand new battery and shipped it FexEx at no charge. I wondered if maybe I had been sent a generator that had been sitting in inventory a year or so but no.. the data tag on it shows a MFG date of May 2007.. I bought it in late August so I got a brand new one.. just had a bad battery. I tried the pull start several times and it always starts on one pull. I go out about once every two weeks and start it and let it run awhile to get oil thru it good.. keep a maintenance trickle charger on it all the time. I can't speak to what it will do over time but outa the box it's everything it was promised to be.. I love it so far. I almost bought a Coleman but those units got horrible reviews.. rampant with quality issues.. leaking gas all over.. horrible vibration issues.. etc.. also they have no idle control and most no electric start and are overpriced terribly. I'm glad I bought this Powermax... couldn't be happier at this point.. good luck to you.

(More customer reviews)The generator was easy to assemble, started right up after filling oil reservoir and fueling. I haven't had a power outage yet since getting this generator (go figure). The only drawback I've seen (so far) is the information provided on the available plug receptacles is rather weak. The 50 amp plug is located underneath the panel face where all the other plug receptacles are located. It has a wire "latch hook" to keep the plug from falling out, but no info on how to properly use it. I had difficuly locating the correct male plug with a "straight" out feature since most are 90 degrees. It would have been nice to have the male plug-end supplied with the generator. I finally found one at Grainger (cost over one hundred bucks, but it's top notch). Although the muffler assembly is impressive looking, it's not quite as quiet as I expected.

(More customer reviews)I had not previously heard of this brand, but Amazon's great price made it hard to pass up. I purchased this generator for home emergency purposes. I Ordered it on Sunday night and received it on the following Thursday. There was no visual damage to the box that would indicate rough handling by the shipper. However, upon removing the generator from the box there was minor damage to a couple of items (nothing that would prevent operation). I called the manufacturer and the representative politely agreed to replace the items.
The generator does not come with a battery for the electric starter. The manufacturer's representative stated that it required an Everstart ES12N94B1 battery, which I found at Wal-mart. After adding oil and a little gas the generator started right up with only three easy pulls (I had not installed the battery at that point). The generator started so easy, in fact, that I am considering taking the battery back and not using the electric starter. This generator appears to be of good quality and at this point I am completely satisfied with the product.

Sportsman GEN7000LP 7000-Watt 13 HP OHV Propane Powered Portable Generator Review

(More customer reviews)I bought this at the end of winter to replace my old gasoline powered one after it wouldn't start (due to the ethanol in the gas gumming up the engine) during an ice storm. I was planning to be prepared for this coming winter. I never imagined I would be using it a few months later when a tornado whipped through our neighborhood and county just before Memorial Day. We were fortunate and only without power for 4 days, but this generator came through with flying colors. I hadn't even taken it out of the box and really wasn't at all prepared for this storm. I didn't have the battery in yet so we had to manually pull start. I have neck issues but it wasn't that difficult and started quickly each time. The brochure says you will get around 8 hours on a half load, ...NOT. Try figuring on 4 to 5. Didn't seem to matter what we ran that was the average. At $20 bucks a little 20lb bottle we got into a rhythm of running it noon to 5pm for the heat of the day and again at night 10pm to 3am for showers and such.
I planned to have a large 100lb or maybe 250lb propane tank to have on hand for this winter. The initial investment of 7 additional tanks to add to my two I had for the grill cost around $300. We used 8 bottles total being conservative with the use. Off of that I supplied my house and my daughters house (next door) with power to run a refridgerator and fan, while I ran a freezer and refriderator and fan. We also had an outlet on for charging cell phones. I would turn on the hot water heater to charge it but would turn off some of the refridgerators just to be conservative. We are on a well, so it also had a big draw whenever the pump kicked on.
All and all I am delighted with my purchase, and will make sure to have plenty of propane in place for this winter! (we live on the side of the mountain and you can't always drive up the road). The nice thing about the propane it has a long shelf life unlike the gasoline powered units, so I can relax and know it will be good for a few years not a few months.
