(More customer reviews)First off, it's really 2800-3000 watts continuous. Jaingdong model JD3000. It uses a Jaingdong JF200 6.5 hp motor which is an excellent clone of the Honda OHV engine (licensed from Honda). It is smooth, quiet, and best of all pretty fuel efficient for a gasoline powered generator. The generator is brushless and therefore really has nothing to wear out other than bearings.
That's the good stuff...
Unfortunately, the Chinese pedigree does show in a few places. The fuel gauge never worked on mine. The electrical components (circuit breaker, meter, etc) seem kind of crude, but have held up OK in use so far.
I've owned this generator for almost two years now and it probably has about 40 hours of runtime. It had no trouble keeping us going during several power outages, the longest of which was about 30 hours. It ran an oil furnace, refrigerator, TV/DVD Player, and a few lights with no problem. The output voltage and frequency does not sag under load. I feel it is sized just about right for the load we place on it. A bigger generator would simply use more fuel.
One tip that makes the generator much easier to start. Always turn off the fuel petcock and remove the drain plug from the carburetor to drain out the old fuel. Replace plug and turn fuel petcock back on. Wait 30 seconds, flip on the choke, and it will start easily, even when it's quite cold outside. Fresh gas does help a lot too.
Overall, I think this is the best emergency generator value on the market. I paid $299 from Homier, and thought that was an outstanding price. I see they have it on sale for $219 right now. It's an outright steal for that price!
No matter what brand of generator you buy, if you have it shipped via UPS, or whatever, there is a chance it will have been handled very poorly. Shipping companies folks don't like handling heavy boxes and they tend to slam them around, roll them off the end of loading docks, etc. The bottom of the support frame was bent on mine, but was easily straightened. I would suggest planning to be at home when the generator is delivered, and if at all possible open the box before the driver leaves to document any possible damage.

We have an all electric home. Of course it won't handle a 20kw furnace or Central A/C, but runs a whole house fans and small fans for the wood stove. Electric start and fuel economy make this unit great for the price.

One year after owning this generator it only had 10 hours service and we needed it to keep us going after a major storm took out our power. 10 hours into service, the rocker arm bolts broke and the engine shut down. The engine is made in China and the company has been contacted many many times for repair parts. I was willing to pay for the parts but they have not provided any opportunity to get them. I have been trying for 4 months and have not been contacted to order the needed parts. The quality of workmanship is terrible! The customer service is non-existant.

(More customer reviews)I ordered the unit and it took 26 days to arrive. Assembly was straightforward and the fit and finish was fine. Hooked the unit up to a manual switch and it was underpowered for the house. After much effort, it was clear that the generator pumped out a solid 100 volts ac, not 120. It couldn't even run a handtool at full power. HMMM.... 10,000 watts, eh? Next came Porter Cable NATIONAL service. It took them 48 hours to respond and when they did, it was basically to say its not their problem -try the local service center to see if they fix generators. The local service place was more sympathetic, but that doesn't put power in your lines. I am probably going to be stuck lugging a 350 lb. brand new generator to see if they can find out what's wrong. I'll give the generator 2 stars on looks alone. But I would much prefer a generator that is useable and that has a service crew that is even minimally interested in helping. One way or another I will get this thing to work, but for something that costs over $2ooo, I would have expected a generator that had been inspected by someone other than me.

(More customer reviews)I wasn't sure what I would get with a price that seemed too low to believe, but figured I would take a chance. I needed to find an alternative to my small gasoline powered generator which is now over ten years old with minimal usage. Gas is such a pain, as I stock up for hurricanes and end up dumping it back through my cars to get rid of it before it goes bad; diesel is very stable with some additives, much safer to store a dozen-or-so gallons long term, and provides more energy per gallon.
I had never heard of All Power before, but it seems they make a variety of products--hopefully an "up and coming" that will be around for a long time if they can establish a rep as a company with quality and service which it appears they are trying to do. So far, I am extremely happy with what I have gotten for my money. Shipping was a breeze and they placed it right where my wife told them inside my garage until I got home. No instructions for basic construction of adding wheels etc but not really needed either for anyone with basic mechanical ability. The manual seems extremely well written for a Chinese product--I was initially impressed by that.
After the first startup (for which I needed to use the electric start), it starts manually on the first pull every time! Fit and finish quality appear excellent and no shortcuts on construction. Nice features include a fuel tank gauge, run-hours meter, 120v/240v selector, and electric start; 3 and 4 prong twist power plugs were included too. The 6-wheels (2 pneumatic + 4 small rollers) make it pretty easy to move around, though there is definitely some weight associated with a generator set this large. The engine is made by Changfa, generally recognized as an excellent Chinese company with a real understanding of quality control. As an emergency generator, it will take a long time to put real serious hours on it--it only remains to be seen how long it would stand up to continuous operation if needed; hopeful that proper maintainance will yield long service.

You won't get arrested for stealing this diesel generator! Ok, you need a big rig to keep the lights and appliances burning. You've looked around and been shocked by some prices exceeding $5,000! (More customer reviews)I purchased a DS7200Q (DuroStar) generator from Maxtool (the trademark holder) in January 2010. By mid-Feburary I was having to order replacement parts. By April, I found metal and paper in the oil crank case. I took photos of the metal fragments and paper and sent them to MaxTool. They suggested I have the generator evaluated by a diesel repair shop. The repair shop found the connector rod was sheared. Clearly a defective machine, but MaxTool refuses to replace the engine or refund me. All of this happened before the generator even logged 50 hrs. Now I have a $1000 diesel generator that is useless, plus the cost of the "evaluation". They do not have any concern for customer service, nor do they stand behind their products.

Blue Max GEN4000B 4,000 Watt 6.5 HP 4-Stroke OHV Gas Powered Generator Review

(More customer reviews)I received this generator via UPS today (I feel sorry for the UPS driver, it's heavy.)
I opened it and it was double-boxed (good start) and after opening box #2, out came my new generator. Keep in mind that this unit is a 2800 Watt generator with a 4000 watt max output - plenty to power most small homes' fridge, a few lights and a TV, but not your dryer or electric stove.
I filled the oil on the engine (lots of warning stickers about this) and put a gallon of gas in the tank. I turned on the gas petcock, flipped on the choke and pulled the starter - 3 pulls and it started and ran for smoothly for about an hour (until I shut it off.) I plugged several things into it while it was running (the voltage meter on it read a constant 110V) and everything seemed to run fine without the generator even showing a load - even my 2HP table saw motor didn't pull too much when starting.
This looks like typical Chinese-built hardware but it also appears to be well-made (especially for the money.) There's a pop-out filter in the fuel tank (a nice extra) and an accessory pack that includes two 110v plugs, a 220v 3-prong plug and a spark plug wrench. My manual and accessory pack were stuffed up under the gas tank and could have been easily overlooked.
The unit is fairly quiet (for a generator) and is tolerable for outside use. I borrowed a friend's US-made generator and it was much louder than this one is. With my home's door shut and it running just outside, you can't hear it running.
Unless you're equipped with a very strong back, I don't recommend you pick this up by yourself. You would do well to either have a good dolly or a wheel setup to move this around. I am going to use a dolly as I don't want it to be too easy to steal when I use it outside my home.
One last thought: typically you get what you pay for. This is a low-cost generator. I don't expect from it what I might expect from a US-made unit that costs twice as much. But I will say that with good maintenance, I expect it to last for several years. I gave it four stars instead of five since, while it's a good value, it's not built with the fit and finish of it's American competition.

(More customer reviews)I was apprehensive about buying this generator because they don't have a network of service centers... they tell you to take it to any small engine shop near you and contact them about charges under warranty. I called their cust svc and talked with them about the need for third party verification regarding parts needed and they assured me none was required.. I could fix it myself if I wanted.. just call them and tell them what I needed and they'd send it out. That seemed fair enough. It took a little over a week to get mine and it was delivered by USF Holland freight and arrived in pristine condition.. hats off to Holland. I got the liftgate delivery and he backed that big semi right up to my garage door...took his hand truck and set the small skid it was banded to in the center of my garage.. he required no help.. I never touched it until he was gone. These come packed in a cardboard carton and the packaging is well engineered.. thick foam all sides.. top and bottom.. all loose parts.. wheel kit.. etc.. in their own little nook in the foam. It is very heavy but you can get it assembled and off the skid working alone.. I did and I'm 62 yrs old. I pulled the front until it overhung the skid about 10" and assembled the wheel kit then pivoted one side of the rear until it overhung and assembled that strut then blocked the rear strut up with a 4x4 and pulled the skid out of the way and assembled the other strut. I filled it with good synthetic blend oil and put about a gallon of gas in it. I turned the fuel valve on.. it's located a few inches to the right of the choke handle. I pulled the choke handle all the way out and tried to start it with the key... the battery was totally dead. I pulled it out and put it on the charger and stuck the battery outa my lawn tractor in it and tried to start it. It was running almost before I could let go of the key. These Powermax units all have an idle control on them so there's no speed adjustments of any kind possible and none needed. It idles very fast.. all generators do.. they have to to produce current. It ran smooth with no fluctuating noticeable in engine speed. Next I took my voltmeter and checked the output on all the current-carrying poles on all the receptacles. I got a steady 119 volts everywhere. With a target of 120 I considered this to be excellent.. my house current won't hold that. The reason I bought this big unit in the first place was I had hoped it would start and run my big window air conditioner... it is huge.. 30k btu's. I plugged the extension cord I had bought into the L14-30 240v receptacle on the generator and ran it inside the house and plugged up the conversion cord I'd made going to the 6-30 plug on the air conditioner and turned it on. It fired right up with no bogging down and I never noticed the engine on the genny pick up at all. I let it run about a half hour... let the compressor on the air conditioner cycle off and on many times and watched the voltmeter on the genny. It never moved.. engine really never picked up speed either so this generator runs that big air conditioner without any strain on it at all.. I was VERY relieved. The other things I plan to run during an outage won't even approach the surge requirements of that big air conditioner so that issue was put to rest. It turned out that the battery in mine was no good.. wouldn't hold a charge even a half hour. I called MaxTool and told them and true to their word there was no hassle.. they sent me a brand new battery and shipped it FexEx at no charge. I wondered if maybe I had been sent a generator that had been sitting in inventory a year or so but no.. the data tag on it shows a MFG date of May 2007.. I bought it in late August so I got a brand new one.. just had a bad battery. I tried the pull start several times and it always starts on one pull. I go out about once every two weeks and start it and let it run awhile to get oil thru it good.. keep a maintenance trickle charger on it all the time. I can't speak to what it will do over time but outa the box it's everything it was promised to be.. I love it so far. I almost bought a Coleman but those units got horrible reviews.. rampant with quality issues.. leaking gas all over.. horrible vibration issues.. etc.. also they have no idle control and most no electric start and are overpriced terribly. I'm glad I bought this Powermax... couldn't be happier at this point.. good luck to you.

(More customer reviews)I purchased one of these about five months ago from a popular online seller for $199.99 with free S&H. If you already own, or you are considering buying this gen set, you should read this. If you have experienced some of the same problems, maybe this info will be helpful. I am a retired Plant Engineer from a major world class manufacturer in the US and have 40+ years of experience with machinery and equipment so I know a lot about equipment manufacturing and repair. I really like the concept and idea of this gen set because its small, light, and it really does run about 9 hours (50% load) on a tank (1.3 gal.) of fuel but it does have its problems. I can sum up the problems I've had in two words, Quality Control! I can't speak for all the units out there, only mine. From what I have been able to gather from my research, there are several generations of this generator manufactured to date. I believe mine is somewhere in the middle with a manufacture date of Oct. 2007, so some, or all, of these issues may have been addressed with the newer ones. I will give you the good, the bad, and the ugly, as I experienced it. I have two other generators that I use for emergency power but I needed something small, light, and more fuel efficient to use at the fish camp and hunting lease. I needed only about 1100 watts for lights, and to keep the RV batteries charged, so this one seemed the perfect match. Most people buy the largest generator they can get not realizing that they have to move, store, and feed the hungry beast. When I purchased this one, gas was over $4.00 a gallon so it was senseless to use a larger one for my needs and waste precious fuel. When I took it out of the box I liked what I saw. I filled it with oil and gas and started it as per the manual. I was disappointed that it took 7 or 8 healthy pulls to finally start it. Even though it was new it should start easier and quicker when you use the choke. After letting it run for 5 minutes or so I put it under a 1000 watt resistive load. It worked fine but I noticed a substantial amount of oil under the engine. Very disappointed, I shut it down and checked for any loose nuts, screws, oil plug, etc., but could not determine from where the oil was leaking. It continued to leak even though it wasn't running so I knew it was a below oil level leak. I drained the oil/gas and called the seller expecting to exchange it. Of course they recommended that I follow the manual and call the mfg. which I had already done. On the third day of calling the seller and demanding to talk to a supervisor, and demanding an exchange for one that functioned properly without leaking oil, he finally told me they were out of stock and didn't know when they would be restocked and offered a refund of the full purchase price. I took his offer and ask him how he wanted me to handle the return S&H. His reply surprised me. They didn't want it back and he asked me if I would dispose of it. Sure I would! I think he had an idea what the problem was and it wasn't worth it for them to pay return S&H, repair cost, and then having to sell it as refurbished for a reduced price. I was sure that with a little time I could determine the cause of the leak and possibly fix the problem. I was unable to see from where the oil was leaking without removing the generator from the frame so that's what I did. It appeared that the oil was coming from under the front motor mount so I removed both motor mounts. I still couldn't tell exactly where the oil was coming from. I cleaned the bottom of the motor and then filled it with transmission fluid (do not run it like this) knowing the red color would be easier to detect. It worked! The oil was coming from a "casted in hole" that could be used for an oil drain in other applications. Manufacturers generally do this a lot so they can use their product for different applications and mounting configurations. They just don't drill the unused casted hole all the way through. The problem was that in the bottom of the hole the aluminum was so thin that there was porosity in the aluminum casting. The oil was leaking right through the casting bottom even though no flaw was visible. An easy fix for anyone who knows their way around tools and procedures. I had to find the proper size tap and put threads in the casted hole as the mfg. would have done for a bottom oil drain. You must use a flush mount plug for this because the front motor mount fits against the bottom of the motor casting. I also used sealant because I knew I would never need to remove it. I filled it with oil and major problem solved! Now for the hard starting issue. You must be really careful with this one because the recoil starter cage is plastic. I really wish they would have spent a few more cents and made it of metal. The manual will tell you not to pull the starter rope all the way out. This is because you will pull the plastic recoil starter housing right off the motor. If you are a big person with long arms this will be a challenge. I've read many complaints where this has happened. There is a seller on ebay that has sold many of these for parts/repair, and all are missing the recoil starter. No doubt broken by over pulling the starter rope. Remember, it takes several quick, healthy pulls to start this thing. It feels to me like the compression should be a little higher so I pulled the valve cover to check the valve clearance. It was correct but I was surprised at how weak the valve springs are and I suspect the valves are not seating 100% on this one. This would account for being hard to start and lack of power which I will address later. I removed the spark plug and checked the gap. Too close! Only .020" which would result in a reduced spark. Should be around 0.030". I gapped the plug and tried it again. Not much improvement but I really didn't like the cheap plug that came with it so I went to the auto parts store and purchased a quality branded plug. This helped greatly! It starts with about half the pulls as before. Although it still doesn't start as easily as it should, this was a big improvement. Now for the load test. The mfg. description claims 1500 watts running load but that is a stretch for this one. No load voltage is 109 volts = OK. With 500 watts resistive load, it went to about 120 volts = very good. With 1000 watts resistive load, it was about 117 volts = perfect! When I added another 500 watts for a total of 1500 watts the engine strained just to keep running and the voltage dropped to 98 - 99 volts = too low. I reduced the resistive load to 1350 watts and the voltage came back up to about 109 volts = OK. It's only fair to say that other units that are running properly just might run at the claimed 1500 watts. As I stated above, I suspect the valves may not be seating 100% on this one which would account for the strain the little engine was in at 1500 watts. Anyway, this is all that I need so it works for me. Don't bother with the 92+ octane gas as the manual recommends. I tested 87 octane gas and 93 octane gas and could tell no difference, with or without a load, in the performance or voltage. At about 100 hours the sheet metal shield on the muffler fell off leaving three ¼" holes in the muffler where the shield was spot welded to the muffler. Not a big problem but a little more noise. For me the shield is not necessary anyway. The muffler is tucked well inside the frame and you would really have to be trying to get burned by it. If the additional noise bothers you just do what I did. Go back to the auto parts store and buy some muffler patch putty. Just smear it over the small holes and let it cure as per instructions. It can be sanded and painted with high temp. paint after it cures if you want. After about four months the fuel line developed a crack and started leaking. I replaced it with quality 3/16" fuel line and added an in-line filter. I switched to full synthetic oil after about 30 hours of operation so the engine should last a long time. One other note; once I put it under a 1000+ watt load the engine started working harder and developed more vibration. If the generator is setting on a smooth surface, it will start walking away caused by the added vibration. The cheap, clip-on vibration pads just don't work. Cut a piece of old carpet padding (18" X 18") and set the generator on it. I've put about 200 hours on this little unit and it still runs fine.All in all, after about $25.00 for parts/supplies, and eight hours of troubleshooting and labor, I have exactly what I want and I'm happy with it now. I believe it will now run reliably for many years of moderate use. I'm sorry this is a bit long but I hope this has helped someone.
